Known the world over as the home to the Grand Canyon, Arizona is blessed with beautiful hot deserts in the south and abundant forests and mountains to the north. Acquired from Mexico during the Mexican War of 1848, fighting with the native indians did not end until 1886 with the surrender of the great Indian chief Geronimo. Arizona became a state of the union on February 14, 1912. Tourists mostly travel to Arizona to see one of the great wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon. The canyon is 217 miles long, 13 miles wide, and 5,500 feet deep. Other natural attractions in Arizona include the Painted Desert, the Petrified Forest, Diablo Canyon, Meteor Crater and London Bridge. @
